From a Small Kitchen to a Community Icon

Cafe Rio started in 2008 with a single kitchen, a handful of recipes, and an unshakeable belief that food tastes better when it's made with love. Our founders, lifelong foodies and Mesa natives, wanted to create a place where neighbors could gather over honest, craveable meals — no pretension, just genuinely great cafe rio food.

Over the years, the caferio menu evolved as we listened to our community, adding dishes that reflect the diverse, vibrant spirit of our guests while staying true to the fresh, scratch-made standards that put us on the map. Every recipe is tested until it earns a permanent spot on our board.

2008

The First Plate

Founders Marco and Elena open the original Cafe Rio location on Signal Butte Rd, Mesa, serving 12 tables and a menu of 8 dishes made entirely from scratch.

2011

First Major Expansion

Growing demand prompts a full dining room renovation, doubling seating capacity and introducing the caferio signature bowl — now our most iconic menu item.

2014

Community Award

Cafe Rio is recognized as Mesa's "Best Local Restaurant" by the Arizona Food & Dining Guide. We celebrate by hosting a free community dinner for 300 neighbors.

2017

Online Ordering Launch

We launch our online ordering platform, making it easier than ever to enjoy Cafe Rio's fresh food at home. First-week orders exceed 1,000 — a record for the region.

2020

Resilience & Community Support

During challenging times, Cafe Rio pivots to contactless delivery and donates over 5,000 meals to frontline workers across Maricopa County — a moment we're deeply proud of.

2023

Catering & Events Launch

Cafe Rio expands into full-service catering, bringing our fresh food to weddings, corporate events, and community gatherings throughout Greater Phoenix.
